Honor 8 to receive Android 7.0 Nougat update starting January 16

Huawei is trying to bring Android 7.0 Nougat to Honor 8 as soon as possible. Despite the fact that the Chinese handset maker confirmed that the smartphone will receive the highly-anticipated update, along with EMUI 5.0, in February, new information points to an earlier release.

Huawei Japan has just announced that it will start deploying Android 7.0 Nougat and EMUI 5.0 to Honor 8 beginning January 16. The update will be rolled out incrementally, so it will reach to all Honor 8 devices in Japan in about one month.

The file size of the update weighs in at 1.97GB and it will be pushed to unlocked versions of Honor 8. Even though Android 7.0 Nougat for Honor 8 will be deployed in Japan starting next week, customers in the United States will probably have to wait until February.

Huawei recommends that Honor 8 owners should back up their personal data before updating, as well as make sure that the phone's battery is at least half charged.

Aside from the usual new features that Android 7.0 Nougat will bring, Huawei also mentions it will add some system optimizations, stability improvements and better app versatility.
